Tracking

I always like it when I see Barbara's friend Gretchen because it means I'm going to have a tracking lesson. Gretchen is a tracking judge and she has trained one of her Weimeraners to be a Champion Tracker, which is very hard to do.

Gretchen laid a very interesting track for me that crossed a ditch with water in it. I had no problem with the track but Barbara has to learn to do her part, reading me, better.

Ambrose got to do his very first track. Gretchen put down a track with lots of articles (cloth, leather, plastic and metal) every few feet. Every time Ambrose found one he got huge praise and lots of hot dogs and sausage biscuit. They made a big fuss over him so he will like tracking. He doesn't really know what he is doing yet but he did get his nose down to sniff.

Ayla's person, Sandi, took these pictures for us. You can read more about tracking on Ayla's blog.

I do love to track. It is always interesting and fun and I am sure, once Ambrose figures it out, he will love it too.

  2. Hi Niamh,
Well, finally Sandi has gotten today's tracking post up on my blog. She has such a time with positioning the photos on the post, getting spacing just right, and she complains that what comes up published on the blog isn't what she set up. She's goofy. Who cares!

I loved tracking today! We are so lucky to be doing things that are so much fun for us! Ambrose did a great job for his first time. I know you and Barbara are very proud of him!

I like wet messy wet weather, but I'm beginning to wish for a little sunshine.

    Your BFF, Ayla

  7. How fun! Do they ever put a squirrel down for you to find? I think I would LOVE tracking if that were the case!

  11. Niamh,

I track down pee mails and make it my job to cover them all with my own pee. It's very important that this be done every single day and I am a champion pee mail tracker and covererupper.

  12. Our Bailey would lie to be a tracker. She spends hours following the same squirrel tracks around the yard. Yesterday she almost caught the squirrel.

  13. Woooo, lucky Ambrose getting to learn all that already! We think we might be good at tracking....if the human wasn't "too busy" to teach us....we are very noisy though! Great when you get to do stuff that you love :D

  14. A trained Whine-yer-mama? Never heard of such a thing.

Sometimes momma puts liver in the yard for us to track. Hope your work includes similar rewards.

  16. Sorry, my mind stopped working at lots of hot dogs and a sausage biscuit. Tracking sure sounds like fun (and my mom's still making funny noises about how Ambrose is the cutest thing...)

    See ya!

  17. Oh you are all doing such a good job. Maybe Callie and Louie would be good trackers since their noses seem to work overtime since theirs ears don't work..

  18. Wow, Niamh! I would love to learn to track too!!
Am not sure I would be any good at it though...my human says my nose is useless - she sometimes throws treats in the grass in the garden for me to find, as a game - but I always walk past them and never notice them!!

  20. What? No tennis balls to track? Actually, it sounds like fun, especially the treats. See, you're already enjoying yourself with Ambrose. Soon Ambrose will be totally amazing, just like you.
