Pet Peeves at the Dog Park

Yesterday we drove the dog crate on wheels over to my friend Amiga's house and picked her and her person up for a trip to the dog park. Amiga is a lovely Golden Retriever who is in the Drill Team with me.

It was a beautiful day and I enjoyed playing with most of the dogs at the park.

Don't worry, I am not stealing treats from someone's bag. A nice person brought this bag filled with ice so we could cool off.

This is Lacey, one of Barbara's students.

Amiga got tired of running around so she is chewing on a nice stick.

Now we get to the pet peeves. There needs to be some people etiquette in the dog park. I am always shocked with the people who come to the park and talk on their cell phones or read and pay no attention to their dogs! What is wrong with them?

Then their are the people who just let their dogs poop and don't pick up after them. It makes the park nasty for everyone.

But the thing that gets me really annoyed is the people who let their dogs crowd the gate. It makes it very hard for other dogs to get in and is a good place to start a fight.

And look at this poor little thing left to fend for herself against the big dogs. It will teach her that big dogs are mean and that she has to fight them, which will of course get her in trouble. Her people should be ashamed!

I love to go to the dog park but some people don't have much sense and can ruin it for everyone. Rant over.

I promised in my last post that I would be doing taste tests on all the treats that Barbara brought home from the APDT Conference. That has been put on hold for a few days because I was a very bad girl last night. I stole a whole bag of my chewable joint supplement and ate 24 of them! Quite delicious but it has caused my tummy to be rather upset (and Barbara was upset with me and worried too). I'm feeling better now but am still eating rice and chicken broth until things are back to normal. Then the testing will begin and I will report on the most delicious kinds of treats.

Hmmmm, Niamh... wrong kind of test, obviously...... Sorry to hear about the tummy troubles. Being compared to a cat may not be high on your wish list, but you're a bit in the same boat as me a few days ago, when I stole some of Tama-chan's milk and got sick...

Feel better soon!

Niamh...

I understand your pet peeves. After this weekend my human said that I'm not allowed to go to dog parks anymore.

I hadn't been in a long time, and I was super excited to be there, and for some reason a great dane didn't like me, so he tackled me and growled and would let me up, no matter how much I yelped. The human tried to get the 120 pound dog off me, and his owner said that his dog was just playing. After my human got me free I ran away with my tail tucked, and my human said it took all she had not to throw the metal part of my leash at the other humans head!

I hope the doggie parks get better soon, 'cause if not...I won't EVER be able to go back!

Slurp!

There aren't any dog parks where I live, but I doubt my mom would ever bring me to one. She likes the dogs, but she doesn't trust their owners. She'd rather that I have arranged play dates with dogs who belong to people she knows well. I hope your tummy feels better soon.

Your dog park looks fun, it is a shame some people have to ruin it by not watching their own dogs or clearing up after them.

We did laugh at you with your head in that bag... hehe, looks like you were ejoying your ice!

We hope your tummy heals soon.

Hi, Niamh!
I hope you are feeling better now!
There are no dog parks here and knowing our people I am sure all those things would happen if we had one!
Take care

It's such a shame that not everybody abides by the rules at dog parks! It ruins it for others! We've never been to one!
We hope your tummy is feeling better, Niamh!

Love ya lots,

Niamh,

Thanks for the tips on pronouncing your name. Hey, it also rhymes with peeve! Ok, humans can be so annoying but they are only human... Dawgs are so much smarter. Maybe you can become a human trainer?! We don't have any dawg parks where I live but we're lucky because it's not a city here and we have the ocean beaches to run around on. I'm glad you had fun with Amiga even though some of those humans were exasperating!

Yes some people are very irresponsible when it comes to going to parks.. When we go to the lake we can't believe all the trash that people just leave lay..

Hey there. Naughtiness is part of life. Just ask my humans! I have a case of the naughties every day.

We agree about the bark park! Often times Pupi and I are the smallest ones in there and we can get picked on by the big guys. And it's almost always by pups owned by humans with cell phones for ears! Strange...

You are so right, Niamh. I don't go to our dog park anymore either since a big dog had my head in his mouth and my Mama had to to pull him off me, risking her life! And there's poopies there and unattended dogs ... it's just no fun anymore because some humans just don't care. There oughta be a law ... hope your tummy troubles are over.

The girl hates taking us to the dog park because of those same reasons - especially the crowding at the gate. It scares BLU and then she froths at the mouth and looks like she has rabies!
