Show Dogs

My sister Tori is a show dog. Barbara tried to get me to be a show dog but I thought standing still and looking pretty was boring. I am a go-girl and like to do freestyle and tracking. I also can not stand dog grooming torture and if you are entered in conformation shows you have to do a lot of it.

In July Tori went to a big show in Salem, VA. It is the same show where Fenway had a big win. I wish I had known Fenway was going to be there because I would have told Tori to go and play with him. I am sure that it would have been more fun than standing around in a show ring.

Anyway Tori did great. She got a 4 point major at the Friday show and a 5 point major on Sunday. This means that she had to beat lots of other Gordon Setters to get that many points. The judge who gave her the 5 points is very famous and knowledgeable so that was a big win.

I think she looks quite beautiful and regal and she will be a champion soon.

Now Barbara thinks that Ambrose should enter the show ring. This must be a joke! What judge in his right mind would give any kind of ribbons to this goofy boy?

Me? I'll stick with tracking.

Tori sure is a purty girl. I just love how soft her coat is!

I'm with you though...trackin and playin are much more fun than standin still and bein groomed (although gettin brushed and massaged aint all that bad!)

Lucky for me, I would be considered a reject by Great Dane standards. Double lucky for me, Mom doesn't care! Whoohoo! So I gets to play and run and sniff all I want. Whoohoo!

That show stuff is BORING! I agree with you. Plus you have to stay all clean and floofy. Who wants to do that?

Oh yeah, I am in BIG trouble. I accidentally scratched the puppy with my tooth. Uh oh.

Now I think he has a restraining order on me.

Slobbers,
Mango

I agree with you, Niamh, I'm glad I'm not a show dog too. I'd much rather be doing interesting dog activities like freestyle and other stuff than standing around trying to look pretty. Besides, I think it's cooler when you win ribbons for stuff you DO rather than just for what you look like - because everyone has different ideas of what beautiful looks like!

Having said that, I must say that Tori is a beauty - such an amazing glossy coat - I'm not surprised she's doing well in the show ring!
Who knows Ambrose may surprise you yet !! :-)

Hi, Niamh!
Tori is beautiful!
You are right. You have to do what you feel is better for you!

You never know, Niamh, becoming a show dog might keep Ambrose out of trouble. He would be spending so much time getting "poufed" that he wouldn't be able to mess up your stuff.

We think tracking is MUCH cooler!

Nimah, wow that is 9 points in one weekend. That is good, very good. Hi, I'm Sally Ann, a welsh girl from Atlanta. I'm three, and my brother is Mack, a fourteen year old eskie man. It is sure nice to meet you. I tried showing a wee bit, and it was OK;but, I'm not completely sure about it.

Tori is very beautiful, but I'd pick a girl who tracks over a show girl any day.

It would be pretty neat if Ambrose got into showing. You can hog all your friends and toys while he's on the road.

Show dogs or not, your dogs are gorgeous! Makes me miss having a Setter. Before my Standard Poodle that I currently own, I had a big, goofy Gordon Setter named Tia. We had to put her down last summer due to a tumor on her foot. She was 12 1/2 years old. It was really hard but we knew we had to do it, and I miss having her around. I enjoyed reading through your blog and reminiscing about my Gordon. They really are great dogs and I know I'll have another in the future. I look forward to reading more of your blog!
