Royal's Birthday Party

Yesterday I attended a great social event-Royal's 1st Birthday Party. Royal is an Australian Shepherd and I've known him since he was a puppy. He's a big handsome boy now and is in the Drill Team with me. He has a blog where you can read about all the things he and his person do together.

The Birthday Boy

Royal has a big fenced yard and we had a great time chasing each other all around.

There were nine of us dogs there and we all got along very well. We did lots of sniffing and play bowing but nobody growled at anyone.

After lots of playing we all tried to crowd on to the deck because that were all the food was! The people wanted to eat their food first without nine dogs sniffing around. They got to eat delicious hummus, veggies, chili and cornbread.

Trudy the Italian Spinone tried to climb over the little gate.

Royal's person Jenn made a special dog birthday cake with flour, honey, peanut butter and shredded carrots. It was iced with cream cheese and decorated with little biscuits.

Royal got to blow out his candle and the people sang "Happy Birthday" to him.

The cake was delicious! I ate my slice in one gulp and then licked the bowl clean.

The party was great fun. I got to play with my friends, get lots of petting from the people and ate yummy snacks. To top it off we all got a nice party favors of iced cookies and I got a new stuffie in the gift exchange.

Holy feasting that cake looks tasty! And that birthday party seems like tons of fun. I'm jealous!

My human can't get over the view from that deck. We live in a city now, but a place with lots of green is our dream place to live. A canine like me needs lots of fresh air!

Hi Niamh! Big Pupi here...

My mom totally wants to steal your fab hula hoop trick and was wondering if you had any advice on how to train for it. I learned how to jump thru the hoop in about 0.2 seconds, but this one is taking a bit longer (usually I catch on within 5 minutes - this time I'm not so lucky!).

I'm stuck on the spinning part, or "hula" as we call it. It's not something I normally do that can just be labeled. I've been chasing mom's hand around in a circle but I'm just going for treats and not putting it together. (Stan's picking it up though!) She's worried that because I'm so dependent on hand signals that she won't be able to ask for it without leaning over me and making the spinning motion, even after I've learned the trick.

She wants to send me away to the hoop and spin - from a distance. Right now I know "go in" and I'll go into the hoop and sit. Spinning... not so much!

Thanks buds. You're the best!

My mom said that she thought of you yesterday when she went running - she saw a Setter ever so slowly sneaking up on...a squirrel...

You sure hang with a nice group o' doggies! Not even one growl or snarl to mar Royal's big birthday.

You're lucky to have Royal as a friend. He really looks like a lot of fun and just the type we runners need to give us a workout.

Lovely cake, too!
