Pets on the Patio

Today we went to Alivia's Bistro for an event called "Pets on the Patio". For a donation, dogs could have brunch with their people on the patio of the the restaurant. The money raised benefits Independent Animal Rescue (IAR). Alivia's also donated 10% of the price of all the food people ordered to IAR.

We thought that this was a great idea and since it was a nice fall day, we drove the dog crate on wheels to Durham to participate. I know dogs in Europe can go to restaurants, but in the US they are ridiculously fussy and won't let us inside. Maybe they are afraid one of our hairs will get in the food. Anyway, I was glad to go when I heard that the money will help foster dogs and that I would get to have brunch on the patio.

There were all kinds of dogs at the event. Here are a few photos of dogs enjoying going out to brunch with their people.

Everyone was very well behaved.

Each table had a dog bowl on the ground near it so we could have a drink. Every dog on the patio got a nice toy or treat of their choice. Here I am sampling the chewy I picked out.

The people at the next table ordered a big bowl of something called shrimp. I have never had a shrimp but it smelled extremely delicious. Barbara wouldn't order any for me but she did get me an English muffin and sausage. I tried very hard to sit nicely and not disgrace her by jumping up on the table to get my brunch.

The muffin and sausage were quite tasty but I am going to be dreaming about those shrimp. I hope that the event raised lots of money for IAR - they do good work.

This is my 100th blog post! I really enjoy posting about my adventures and I am so glad to have made many new dog friends all over the world. Blog On!!!

Hey Niamh! Happy 100th post-day :o) Fantastic idea at Alivia's. Hope you get to taste shrimp soon.....there's a place near us that lets dogs in their restaurant courtyard, they provide shaded parking for our people to park the dog-crate-on-wheels and a dog-walk area, very dog friendly, it is! (it's on the way to dog shows for alot of us)

Hi Niamh
That looks like a yummy brunch. And for a good cause. Restaurants only let us doggies sit outside in Denver. And it's getting cold. Congratulations on 100 posts.

Hello Niamh! Congratulations on your 100th post!

It looks like you had a wonderful brunch. I love dining out too, but as I live in Europe, I do get to go inside. My favourite experience so far was eating with #1 in a pub in the Lake District, in England, and she ordered a burger for me!

Your Pal,
Tom

Yay.. Happy 100th post Niamh!

We are really glad to be blogging friends with you and love reading about your adventures.

That brunch date sounds great and it also raises money for charity too... Even better.:-)

Not all restaurants/cafes allow dogs in them over here in the UK. We do have some that do though, which is really nice especially when we are on holiday. Our humans wont leave us in the caravan alone and so if we can't go then they don't go. When they find somewhere we can all use it is really nice.

Congrats on the 100th post!
I have no idea how you were able to control yourself around that sausage. I would have been screaming! And Pupi says that shrimp make him projectile vomit, so you may want to avoid those. They still smell awfully tasty to me...

Dear Niamh,
Happy 100th post! I have a very long way to go to post my 100th - Sandi is so lame about posting for me on my blog. What am I to do?

I hope IAR raised a lot of money at the brunch - they are a good rescue group.

Good to see you today at the 'fun with obedience' class at APS. I was very impressed that you were called on to come out and demo a shaping game. You did a great job!

Can we track later this week - not in the rain though!

Your friend,
Ayla

Hey Niamh, here in Canada, dogs are always allowed on les terraces, or the outdoor patio part of a restaurant.
During the summer you can find as many dogs as people on les terraces. We're not allowed inside restaurants, though and I can't imagine why. Your brunch must have been delicious, and what a great cause.

Congratulations on your l00th post.

Dog crate on wheels - I like that!
