I am Trying to Like Ambrose

I really am trying to be a good big sister to Ambrose but it is very difficult. Let me fill you in on how hard it is to have a little puppy in the house.

First of all he pees constantly! I am not kidding. Yesterday he peed 17 times! Now most of those were outside because Barbara has him on a good schedule but a few times he did it in the house. I was shocked, I can tell you. I will not horrify you with the amount of pooping he did.

But the worst thing is that Ambrose has no personal space. I am a friendly girl but I do like to have some quiet times on my bed with a toy without being bothered. He came up to sniff me and I let him.

Then he sniffed my ear which actually was very nice.

We tried a gentle bitey face game (he has potential there).

But then he had to spoil it by trying to get my rabbit. See how stiff I have gotten.

Unfortunately he was oblivious to my body language and I had to growl at him. Ambrose ignored that too so I had to leap up and snap at him (no pictures of that). Then he got the message.

It is very exhausting to have a puppy in the house. I know everyone says that we will soon be great friends but I am not so sure.

Hi Niamh!

You are doing very well to be so patient with him. If you give him a few weeks he will soon understand your body language and that you need some space. I am sure Barbara will work hard on training the little fella to be an outstanding citizen like you are.

Stick with it, I promise you will like him soon. Just think of all the bitey face you can play! :)

It is clear that you are trying very hard, Niamh! #1 remembers what it was like when I arrived and the constant peeing and pooping just horrified her (I am her first ever dog...). Ambrose is still a baby and he has no idea about anything much, so it will be up to you to teach him how to become a perfect gentleman, just like you are a perfect lady!

Tommy

It sounds very tiring. I is only a puppy myself, but Sally keeps trying to take my toys and I does not like that. Before I only had rabbits and cats and they do not care about toys at all.

Wait till Ambrose starts biting on your feet, Niamh!
Geez, what is Barbara feeding him to make him pee and poo so much! Maybe you need to do him a favor and eat all of his food for him!

Love ya lots,
Maggie and Mitch

Way to teach that mini beast a lesson. I try that on Big Pupi but he takes my stuff anyway. I bet you're best buds in no time!

Pupi says that his baby bro Wile E. weebled every hour and even through the night when he first arrived. Out humans got no rest. I just can't imagine. I need my beasty sleep.

Is ear sniffing a polite thing? I'll even stand on tip toes to sniff a tall dog's ears. Mom always thought that it was my "thing." I love those ear smells!

I'd sniff your ears too Niamh!

Poor Niamh! I know how you feel. Zeke went potty about 57 times a day for the first few weeks, and he's still chewing on me and my toys. But Ambrose will grow up fast, and it's so much fun to have a brother to run around and play with.

Joey

Heehee, sometimes cheeky puppies need a growl or a snap....you're being so good with him and he'll soon learn to respect your personal space....you'll be looking for him to cuddle you before long! Aww, bet he smells lovely! He has a cool name too :o)

Hi Niamh,

I am very excited that you and Barbara have Ambrose. I cannot wait to meet him and wiggle my butt at him! I like his smooshy, sweet face. What fun to have a puppy all to yourself. I know it must be a little annoying to have to share everything with him, but he will become a great friend and you can teach him all about being a proper Gordon.

See you soon! Royal

Poor, sweet Niamh. I am sad that Puppy is causing so much disruption! You are Queen of the House and Puppy needs to learn proper respect.

I hope you are getting enough beauty sleep!

He is so so so cute. If you need a break, Madison's H-Mom said she will borrow him for a puppy-breath fix! Can you imagine?

Oh boy, I remember all the times I had to put pee-wee in his place when he was just a squirt. Momma always said "no blood, no foul."

Sure we're pals now, but not snuggle buddies. I still have to yell at him sometimes when he messes with my stuff. Don't worry. You will work things out.

Mango

Well Niamh, give it a chance, honey. You have to gently let him know you're the boss. He'll get the message - oh, I'm sure Barbara knows exactly what to do to help you and Ambrose establish your pack rules. But it looks like you're doing fine so far. Getting a new puppy isn't easy for you. Crossing my paws that it all works out.
